A Time For Yellow
As we enter mid-Ocotober, the brown trout are becoming a bit more willing to chase streamers. This fish took a yellow Marabou Bullethead, an old school streamer popularized by the late Jack Gartside. I still carry a couple in my fly book (they're at least twenty years old by now), and I think of Jack on the occasions I fish them. He was an avid, expert streamer fisherman that loved patrolling the Baker's Hole area of the Madison at dawn.

John,
Great picture. Would you mind posting a close-up of the streamer by itself, with perhaps a rough guide to tying it? It looks like an interesting fly, and I’ve never seen it before. Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
This photo actually shows the fly pretty well. To tie it, first wrap a body of yellow yarn or marabou (or whatever material you like). Then, tie on two whole marabou plumes at the eye, one on top, one on bottom, so that they face forward over the eye. Move your thread back from the eye, pull the feathers backwards over the hook (one on top of the hook, the other on the bottom), and tie them off. That forms the bullet head. If you like, you can cement the head to streamline it.
